    4-H Beekeeping Workshop

    By Lyndey & Ewan

The bees were loose, but don't worry--Mr.Hodgie had a smoker to calm the bees down.  You could even hold them and they wouldn’t sting you if you didn’t pinch them.

The queen bee had a blue mark on her back.  Every year when there’s a new queen, Mr. Hodgie uses a different color so they can keep track of where the queen bee is.  Two bees can fight to be the queen and the stronger one will win.  The beekeeper wants the strongest one to win so it can do a good job protecting the hive.
